Motivation Unchained

Two hours of the day today was spent in a conference room under the glare of a motivational poster.

In bold face copy, about 250 point, the message "WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WEREN'T AFRAID?" challenged us all to break down barriers of fear and move beyond them into a world of seemingly limitless opportunity.

I'll tell you what I'd do if I wasn't afraid.  Not much at all.  I'd likely be dead, fear, for all its negative connotations, being an inherently preservative emotion.  I think a lot of us would be dead if we weren't afraid.

So there.

"Lookit me Mom, I can jump off this garage roof and land safely, I'm not afraid."

"I'm not afraid of some guy with a gun."

"Its just a bear.  Nothing to be afraid of."

How motivating is that?
