A Song for June 21st
On the first day of summer my true love gave to me,
One screeching Jay on the outside the bedroom tree.
On the second day of summer my true love gave to me,
Two trash pickups (trash and recycling),
And a screeching Jay in the tree.
On the third day of summer, my true love gave to me,
Three day weekend, with the inlaws,
And a screeching Jay in the tree.
On the fourth day of summer my true love gave to me,
Four walls to paint and a screeching Jay in the tree.
On the fifth day of summer my true love gave to me,
Five heatwave days.
Four walls to paint, three long days, two pickups,
And a fucking Jay in the tree.
On the sixth day of summer my true love gave to me,
Six beds to weed.
Five heatwave days, four walls, three awful days, two woke me up and a Jay I'm gonna shoot.
On the seventh day of summer my true love gave to me,
Seven acres to mow.
Five heatwave days, four white walls, three hellious days, two its five am and a Jay I'm gonna cook.
On the eighth day of summer my true love gave to me,
Eight maids-a-milking, left over from December.
Five broiling days, four walls that looked ok as they were, three in-law prison sentences, two pick ups and a Jay I'm gonna immolate with a blow torch.
On the ninth day of summer my true love gave to me,
Nine degrees of heat rash.
Five roasting days, four walls I didn't miss a spot its the light, three get me out, two didja have to compact the stuff now and a Jay who's looking to meet Jesus early.
On the tenth day of summer my true love gave to me,
Ten miles to run (in a charity race that could double as a place to broil chickens, it was so hot).
Five heatwave days the hottest saved for the race, four walls I'm sorry if you don't like the shade this ain't happening again for another three years, three my God to think you bred and made someone relatively normal and pleasant, two woke me up and a Jay who's come to trust me a little too much.
On the eleventh day of summer my true love gave to me,
Eleven bug bites.
Five heatwave days, four walls let's go back to Lowes, three you'll pay for this somehow, two lets just bury it all in the backyard and a Jay who likes sunflower seeds.
On the twelfth day of summer my true love gave to me,
Twelve cocktail hours on the deck!
Five heatwave days, four more walls, three days next summer, two can I sleep in tomorrow and a try this hor d'oeuvre its something I came up with myself. Tastes like chicken.
Happy Solstice.
Bunny on.
